Okinawa-set anime reveals new cast, opening song artist, advance cut video, and January 2025 debut date.
Get ready for a romantic comedy that will take you on a journey to the beautiful island of Okinawa! The anime adaptation of Egumi Sora’s manga, “Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hōgen Sugite Tsurasugiru” (The Dialect of the Girl I Fell in Love With in Okinawa is too Difficult to Deal With), has just dropped some exciting news!
The anime’s staff has revealed two new cast members, the opening theme song artist, an advance cut video, and the anime’s January 2025 premiere! But that’s not all – they’ve also shared an original visual featuring the two female protagonists and the anime’s PR ambassador VTuber, Ui Nema.
The new cast members include Etsuko Kozakura as Oki Memo Shisha, a character based on Okinawa’s ancient lion statue used to ward off evil spirits, and Tarusuke Shingaki as the series’ narrator.
The anime will premiere on TOKYO MX, BS11, and three television channels in Okinawa: Okinawa TV, Ryukyu Broadcasting, and Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting in January 2025. The four-piece band HY from Uruma in Okinawa will be performing the anime’s opening theme song.
The anime stars Shin Itagaki as the chief director, Shingo Tanabe as the director, and Tomohiro Yoshida as the character designer. The music is composed by Tomohisa Ishikawa, Yoshimi Katayama, and Ayano Kinjō, and the sound producer is Studio Mausu. Hodaka Fukumura is the dialect coach.
The romantic comedy manga centers on a boy named Teruaki Nakamura, who transfers from Tokyo to Okinawa and finds a girl named Hina Kyan. But he’s having a hard time understanding her Okinawan dialect, and her friend Kana Higa helps him out. Little does he know, Kana secretly likes him!
The manga launched on Kurage Bunch website in January 2020 and has since become a hit with 350,000 copies in circulation.
