Get ready to dive into the wild world of Rick and Morty: The Anime!

Rick and Morty: The Anime is about to unleash its full spinoff series fury on Adult Swim this Summer, and the masterminds behind the show are spilling the beans on how the anime shorts turned into a full-fledged series. Remember when Rick and Morty first got anime fans’ attention with those epic shorts from director Takashi Sano a few years ago? Yeah, well, it was only a matter of time before the team behind the show brought the anime magic to the small screen!

Rick and Morty: The Anime executive producers Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou sat down with ComicBook during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to dish out the juicy details on how the anime shorts became a full series. It all started when Adult Swim was on the hunt for creators who could bring fresh perspectives to the table. Sano’s anime shorts, including “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider,” were a massive hit, and that’s when the wheels started turning for a full series!

The Wild Ride to Rick and Morty: The Anime

“We were always looking for ways to reimagine our shows, and Rick and Morty was the perfect candidate,” DeMarco said. “We knew we wanted to do something different, and anime was the way to go. Sano’s shorts were a huge hit, and we knew we had to bring the anime magic to the small screen.”

Chou added, “It was a wild idea at first, but we knew it could work. Sano-san is an accomplished anime director, and he’s a huge fan of Rick and Morty in Japan. We’re just excited to see how fans will react to the show!”

Rick and Morty: The Anime premieres on Adult Swim with its English dub on August 15th at midnight, followed by its English subtitled release on August 17th. Get ready to join the adventure!
