Netflix Teases Cyberpunk Anime with CDPR in New Promo
Netflix seems to have a Cyberpunk sequel cooking with CD Projekt Red.
The team behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the AAA video game that got a boost with its anime adaptation, is cooking up something big with Netflix. CD Projekt Red is teasing a new project with the streaming service, and fans are rethinking the possibility of a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel.
It seemed like Cyberpunk wouldn’t be expanding Night City with a sequel, but CD Projekt Red’s latest teaser has fans wondering if that’s still the case. The company has been busy, and we’re expecting a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel ASAP.
Are We Getting a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Sequel?
The news comes from CD Projekt Red during Geeked Week, and fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the teaser. Netflix simply promises a project is in the works for Cyberpunk, saying, “Netflix Animation CDPR Cyberpunk,” “Return to Night City. More info coming soon.”
With no details available, fans are left to speculate about what this new Cyberpunk project might be. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has been a massive piece of the Cyberpunk 2077 IP, from its premiere to its tabletop RPG takeover and beyond. Fans have been asking for a sequel, but Studio Trigger previously stated it wasn’t interested in one.
However, CD Projekt Red has recently shown interest in expanding its theatrical take on Cyberpunk. Rumors about a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel have been circulating all summer, so it’s no surprise fans are getting excited.
What’s Next for Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 has had its ups and downs since its launch in December 2020. The game had a rocky start due to glitches and visual issues, but it has since become a top-tier title. The anime adaptation helped revive interest in the game, and the Phantom Liberty DLC was met with high praise in 2023. Now, CD Projekt Red is looking to the future, and we have a sequel to thank.
Back in 2022, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was announced, and we received a major update on the project in February 2024. The game is being developed with director Gabe Amatangelo at the helm, so if you’re craving more Cyberpunk, the team at CD Projekt Red has you covered.
