Maki Fujiwara’s “My Picture Diary” Manga Wins Eisner Award

Meet the Superstar Winners of the 2024 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards!

The wait is finally over! The winners of the 2024 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards have been announced, and we’re excited to share the list with you!

First off, congratulations to Maki Fujiwara for winning the award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia for her manga My Picture Diary (translated by Ryan Holmberg). The competition was fierce, with a host of other talented manga creators making it to the shortlist, including Sana Takeda’s stunning work on The Night Eaters: Her Little Reapers and Monstress.

In the Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art) category, Sana Takeda once again stole the show with her breathtaking artistry on The Night Eaters: Her Little Reapers and Monstress. Meanwhile, Daniel Warren Johnson’s <cite(Transformers took the cake for Best Writer/Artist, edging out Mokumokuren‘s The Summer Hikaru Died (translated by Ajani Oloye). Johnson’s <cite<Transformers also claimed the prize for Best Continuing Series, showing the staying power of this beloved title.

Other notable winners include:

* Oliver Bly’s The Mushroom Knight for the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award
* Richard Adams, James Sturm, and Joe Sutphin’s Watership Down for Best Adaptation from Another Medium
* Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru’s It’s Jeff: The Jeff-Verse #1 for Best Humor Publication
* Mike Kennedy (Magnetic) for Best Publication Design, and
* Ed Piskor for Best Graphic Album—Reprint

And the list goes on!

In the Best Academic/Scholarly Work category, The LGBTQ+ Comics Studies Reader: Critical Openings, Future Directions took home the top prize, featuring chapters from top scholars in the field.

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious honors in the comics industry, and this year’s winners truly represent the best of the best.
