Maebashi Witches Anime Adaptation News
Sunrise’s anime will debut in April 2025
On Thursday, Sunrise unveiled a stunning new teaser visual and an exciting second promotional video for its upcoming original television anime, Maebashi Witches.
The five main characters, collectively known as the Maebashi Witches, will lend their voices to the heartfelt ending theme song, “Sorezore no Door” (Each Door). The lyrics and composition are by Haruka Kumoi, with Yūki Kishida handling the arrangement, promising a melodic conclusion that resonates with the anime’s themes of growth and discovery.
Additionally, Sunrise unveiled new character illustrations. The top row showcases the girls in their casual spring outfits, reflecting their everyday high school lives, while the bottom row highlights their enchanting transformation into apprentice witches, dressed in elegant “flower shop uniforms.” These visuals perfectly capture the duality of their ordinary and magical worlds.

The anime is set to premiere in April 2025, bringing to life a colorful cast of characters:
- Sakura Kasuga as Yuina Akagi: A bubbly high school freshman with a passion for cameras and capturing deeply “emotional” moments.
- Hinano Sakikawa as Azu Niisato: A stylish girl who adores fashion and experimenting with cosmetics.
- Rena Motomura as Kyoka Kitahara: A poised and polished student from an affluent family, attending the most prestigious school in the prefecture.
- Haruka Minami as Choco Mitsumata: The lively mood-maker of the group, always brimming with energy.
- Honami Momose as Mai Kamiizumi: A pragmatic realist who remains acutely aware of how others perceive her.
- Tomokazu Sugita as Keroppe: The enigmatic and charismatic familiar spirit who recruits the five girls to become apprentice witches.
With its mix of charm, humor, and magical intrigue, this series promises to captivate audiences as these unique personalities unite under the banner of the Maebashi Witches.
Set in the heart of Maebashi city in Gunma Prefecture, this anime follows the magical and transformative journey of five high school girls in a vibrant coming-of-age tale. Yuina Akagi, a first-year student leading a mundane and unfulfilling life, finds her world turned upside down when a peculiar talking frog named Keroppe appears. Tasked with an unusual mission, Yuina and four other girls are chosen to become the Maebashi Witches. Their ordinary school life takes a magical turn as their closet opens into an enchanting space that leads to a mystical flower shop. Here, the girls sing, dance, and craft dreams into reality, fulfilling the heartfelt wishes of others.
Behind this whimsical story is an impressive creative team. Sunrise is credited with the original concept, while Junichi Yamamoto (Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion, Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You) directs the anime at Bandai Namco Filmworks and PROJECT MBW. Erika Yoshida (Bocchi the Rock!, Tower of God) helms the series scripts, with Nozomi Tachibana (Kemono Jihen) adapting Yū Inami’s original character designs. Yoshiki Imazu brings the “witchverse” to life, and Yuri Habuka’s music infuses the story with charm and emotion.
The magical quintet, collectively known as the Maebashi Witches, performs the upbeat opening theme, “Sugosugi Maebashi Witches!” (Super Amazing Maebashi Witches!). Renowned producer Tsunku, known for his work on Precure All Stars New Stage 2: Kokoro no Tomodachi, penned the lyrics, while TORIENA composed the vibrant tune. Together, they set the stage for a story brimming with wonder, music, and a touch of magic.
