Gohan Black: The Newest Dragon Ball Villain Explained
Meet Gohan Black, the new villain in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has introduced a major new villain to the Dragon Ball universe, and it’s already shaking things up big time with the debut of Gohan Black. As the game’s early access players explore its story modes, fans are getting a glimpse of the unique “What If” stories that imagine how the Dragon Ball story could have unfolded if things had gone differently in some arcs.
The game’s “What If” stories can range from small changes to huge ramifications, and one of the most significant ones comes from Gohan’s role in it all. In Sparking! Zero, Gohan is imagined as the strongest warrior in the universe, surpassing his father Goku and Vegeta. This warrior brings a huge target on his back from an angry and vengeful god.
Gohan Becomes The Universe’s Strongest Warrior
In Sparking! Zero, fans get to shift the events of Dragon Ball Super by putting Gohan in the lead role. During the Resurrection F arc, instead of being soundly defeated by Frieza, Gohan regains his full strength and even surpasses it, reaching Ultimate Gohan. This begins a huge chain of events that sees Gohan train with Piccolo and become the strongest warrior in Universe 7.
This version of Gohan’s story also leads to a fight against Hit, which receives attention from across the multiverse. As the events of the Future Trunks arc unfold, Gohan is still the strongest fighter, and Future Trunks arrives, attacking Gohan. However, Gohan is not the only one – an evil version of Gohan from Trunks’ timeline, known as Gohan Black, appears.

Who Is Gohan Black?
Gohan Black is a powerful villain who, like Goku Black, has the same godly power. However, this time around, Gohan also heads to Future Trunks’ timeline to fight Gohan Black alongside Goku and Vegeta. The fight plays out differently, with Gohan Black explaining that he’s a Zamasu from the past who was taken over by the Super Dragon Balls.
Gohan Black’s story also leads to a unique fight against Fused Zamasu, who is defeated by Trunks and Gohan working together. Gohan learns the Evil Containment Wave technique from Piccolo and uses it to seal away the god, saving Future Trunks’ timeline.
Why Gohan Black Is Important
Gohan Black’s inclusion in Sparking! Zero is a smart move that could have been a huge moment in the main series. Gohan’s higher potential of strength makes him a tougher villain to deal with, and fans finally get to see a version of that story. The game’s “What If” stories offer a fresh take on the Dragon Ball universe, and Gohan Black is a significant part of that.
