GKIDS and Anzu Films’ “The Colors Within” Coming to Theaters This Winter

Get ready to groove in the winter of 2024, as GKIDS brings The Colors Within (Kimi no Iro) anime feature film and Ghost Cat Anzu 2D-animated film to North American theaters!
The Colors Within will premier in Japan on August 30, and will be distributed by GKIDS for North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand, Anime Ltd. for Europe, PLAION PICTURES for Italian- and German-speaking territories, and CHARADES for the rest of Europe, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
Meet Totsuko, a high school girl who can see the “colors” of emotions in people’s hearts. She’s on a mission to help her friends and family feel more joy and less sorrow. Along the way, she meets a beautiful woman with an incredible color and a music-loving boy who wants to start a band. Together, they create a harmonious blend of emotions and music.
Naoko Yamada, the director of K-ON! and Girls und Panzer, brings her magic to The Colors Within. Reiko Yoshida, known for her work on K-ON!, Girls und Panzer, and Ride Your Wave, penned the script. Kensuke Ushio, composer of Space Dandy and A Silent Voice, created the music. The film premiered at the Annecy International Film Festival and won the Best Animation Film award at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival.

Ghost Cat Anzu opened in Japan on July 19, and now it’s coming to North American theaters in winter 2024!
The film is directed by Yōko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita, with a script by Shinji Imaoka. The cast includes Mutsuo Yoshioka, Shōhei Uno, Yōko Kuno, and Nobuhiro Yamashita, who also acted as reference characters. The film combines 2D digital animation with rotoscopy, with a 90-minute runtime.
Chiaki Satō performs the theme song “Matatabi” for the film. CHARADES will handle international sales, while GKIDS has acquired the North American rights. You can learn more about the film’s story on Miyu Productions‘ website.
Karin, 11 years old, is abandoned by her father at her grandfather’s house, the monk of a small town in the Japanese countryside. Her grandfather asks Anzu, his jovial and helpful although rather capricious ghost cat, to look after her. The meeting of their strong characters causes sparks, at least at the beginning…
Kodansha published the one-volume Bakeneko Anzu-chan manga in 2007.
