Ex-Kodansha Editor Sentenced to 11 Years for Wife’s Murder
Justice has finally been served for Jung-hyun Park’s wife, as the former deputy editor at Kodansha is sentenced to 11 years in prison for her murder!
After nearly a decade of legal twists and turns, the court has delivered its verdict: Jung-hyun Park, 48, is guilty of murdering his wife by strangling her at their Tokyo home. The shocking crime stunned fans of Park’s work, which included overseeing hits like The Seven Deadly Sins and GTO at Kodansha.
But the investigation didn’t start with a conviction. Park initially claimed his wife had committed suicide by hanging, but investigators weren’t convinced. The case went to trial, only to be delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and a retrial. But in the end, the evidence spoke for itself: Park threatened his wife with a kitchen knife before strangling her.
In court, Park denied any wrongdoing, even after being sentenced to 11 years behind bars. But medical experts and former judge Yaushi Handa told NHK that the prosecution’s evidence was irrefutable, disproving Park’s suicide claim.
“I found there couldn’t be truth to the suicide claim made by the defense team due to medically grounded, reliable evidence. The prosecution’s evidence was very strong. It would have been difficult to overturn the defense’s claim of suicide if it hadn’t been grounded.”
