Akira Akatsuki draws manga adaptation of Yugo Aosaki’s award-winning light novel Glico with Landmines.
Kadokawa announced on Thursday that Medaka Box artist Akira Akatsuki will launch a manga adaptation of light novel author Yugo Aosaki’s Jirai Glico (Glico With Landmines) novel on October 11 in this year’s 20th issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine.
Kadokawa published the original novel in November 2023, which has won three awards this year. The novel is an intellectual battle featuring a female high school student named Mato Imoriya, who is excellent at competitive games.
Mato’s main goal is to live life peacefully, but she always finds herself caught up in strange games, such as reading the positions of traps while climbing stairs.
Notably, Akatsuki previously collaborated with author NisiOisin on the Medaka Box manga, which ran from 2009 to 2013 and inspired two anime seasons. Akatsuki also worked on Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, a manga adaptation of NisiOisin and illustrator Hikaru Nakamura’s light novel Jūni Taisen: Zodiac Warriors, published in English by Viz Media. Akatsuki and author Atsurō Sakai’s BOXER’s BLAST manga was published in Jump SQ.
Aosaki’s Undead Girl Murder Farce novels have been running since 2015, and the third volume was released in April 2021 by Kodansha. The series also has a manga adaptation being published by Kodansha USA Publishing, with a TV anime adaptation streaming worldwide excluding Asia on Crunchyroll.
